NACBH Strategic Plan: Identity

“I can’t change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to always reach my destination.” – Jimmy Dean

There are certainly no shortage of sayings, quotations and inspirational thoughts about change. Change is hard, change requires a lot of us, and change disrupts the automatic responses that our brains default to at the neurological level. And yet, change is an inevitable part of life. We can try to avoid or resist it, but ultimately, it’s happening – and aside from technology, healthcare in the United States might be one of the most constantly-changing environments there is.

Perhaps that is why The National Association for Children’s Behavioral Health (NACBH) has been such a haven for dedicated child behavioral health executives for so long. When discussing the core values and identity of their association, NACBH Board Members spoke most passionately about the community that it provides and how that has been a sustaining factor through their careers. But, they also recognized that NACBH hasn’t always been successful in finding that voice to share how critical that community can be with behavioral health peers. Goal two of the 2019-2020 NACBH Strategic Plan is to position NACBH as a community for leaders and emerging leaders impacted by policy and rapidly-changing environments.

More than highlighting how NACBH is a community to support one another through change, the strategic plan goal drives the association to help members adjust their sails and find new ways to reach their destinations. Not only is your association dedicating resources to strengthening your advocacy voice, NACBH is also looking at the needs of the Children’s Behavioral Health field in new ways, targeting programming to keep you ahead of inevitable change and supporting you as you embrace the new opportunities change provides.
